Case Study: Process Cooling

Ribera del Duero Wineries

OBJECTIVE

Optimize the performance of its refrigeration systems used in dealcoholization, wine preservation, and air conditioning of production spaces.

Approach and Methodology

PilotE² Iceberg and Heatmeter equipment were used.

Challenges Identified
Refrigeration systems: 90% of the plant’s electricity consumption.
Lack of detailed knowledge about the machines’ actual performance.
A significant amount of heat was wasted that could have been used to produce DHW.
The booster pumps operated continuously without adapting to actual demand.

Proposed Improvement Measures
Heat Recovery for DHW
Efficient Pump Control
Energy Optimization through AI and Adaptive Control
Additional Heat Recovery
Continuous Monitoring and Diagnostics

Results Achieved
More than 370,000 kWh/year of recoverable energy identified.
Combined potential energy savings of more than €100,000/year.
Reduction in the use of fossil fuels, particularly in domestic hot water production.
Optimization of cooling system performance and reduction of startups/shutdowns.
